Un artículo de la revista Vanity Fair, escrita por John D. O'Connor, revela la identidad de Deep Throat, la fuente secreta que ayudó a los reporteros Bob Woodward y Carl Bernstein de The Washington Post para dar a conocer el escándalo Watergate. W. Mark Felt, segundo en mando del FBI durante el escándalo, confirmó ser Deep Throat, apodo tomado del nombre de una película pornográfica de los 70s.

Los reporteros del Post, Woodward y Bernstein, guardaron el secreto de la identidad de su fuente, sólo lo darían a conocer cuando éste haya fallecido. Pero ante las declaraciones de Felt y su familia, y el articulo de O'Connor en Vanity Fair, decidieron aceptar que Felt era Deep Throat y así deshacerse de una vez por todas del secreto que mantuvieron por 30 años. Bob Woodward publicará este jueves en el Post una versión personal de la experiencia que vivió junto a Bernstein al cubrir el escándalo Watergate.

Born in Twin Falls, Idaho, in 1913, he graduated from the University of Idaho, went to George Washington University Law School and joined the FBI in 1942.

Mr. Felt, now 91, retired and in failing health in Santa Rosa, Calif., spent more than 30 years at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, eventually becoming its No. 2 official in the midst of the Watergate inquiry.

In a statement today, Woodward and Bernstein said, "W. Mark Felt was 'Deep Throat' and helped us immeasurably in our Watergate coverage. However, as the record shows, many other sources and officials assisted us and other reporters for the hundreds of stories that were written in The Washington Post about Watergate."
