"I'm an American of Mexican descent and I'm proud of that," Mr. Villaraigosa, 52, said at an auto repair training center sponsored by the Urban League. "But I intend to be mayor of all of Los Angeles. As the mayor of the most diverse city in the world, that's the only way it can work."

(...) At a victory celebration on Tuesday night, supporters chanted "Si, se puede!" - Spanish for "Yes, we can!" - as Mr. Villaraigosa strode to the podium. He thanked his family and the people who had inspired him over the years, and promised to "bring this great city together."

"You all know I love L.A., but tonight I really love L.A.," an exuberant Mr. Villaraigosa told his supporters.

Los Ángeles será gobernado por un latino luego de que Cristobal Aguilar, de descendencia mexicana, lo hiciera hace más de 100 años, en 1872. El Demócrata Antonio Villaraigosa, mexico-americano también, es el virtual ganador de la elección para alcalde de la segunda ciudad más grande de Estados Unidos. Villaraigosa logró coinciliar los votos de los latinos y los afroamericanos, obteniendo el 58% de la votación contra 41% del actual alcalde, el Republicano James K. Hahn.

A pesar de la "guerra sucia" durante la campaña, "Los Angeles can't trust Antonio Villaraigosa" fue el slogan de Kahn, Villaraigosa logra un triunfo histórico. California es el claro ejemplo de la división y diversidad étnica en los Estados Unidos; la mitad de la población es de origen latino, creciendo año con año. Esto no sifnifica, hasta el día de ésta elección, que los latinos acudan copiosamente a las urnas. La victoria del mexico-americano significa el comienzo y el despertar de la gran minoria.

Habrá que esperar cómo se da la relación Villaraigosa - Schwarzenegger . Ojalá sea un contrapeso importante para bloquear las ideas xenofóbicas del gobernator.

It's still unknown at this point whether or not Nigel Godrich will produce this album. As you may know, Nigel has been an important role in the development of Radiohead going back to The Bends and is often referred to as the "sixth member" of the band. We do know that the band have been working alone with Nigel popping in every now and then to see how things are going. Thom has also given him CDs of new material. Nigel is currently working with Paul McCartney on his latest album and will most likely join Radiohead in studio once he's done.

Another question that remains unanswered is how this new album will be released. Radiohead fulfilled their contract with EMI with the release of Hail to the Thief and it's unclear if they will be resigning or going with another label. It's also possible that they may try and release this on their own, but that's just our speculation.

News from the studio

EXCLUSIVE! The band recently got together in the studio to play through new material, with reportedly 15 songs that they are working on with two of them described as "already done and amazing." They are in high spirits and happy to be playing together. The band first got together back in January and Thom played a bunch of his new songs for the others. Having never heard the songs before, the rest of the band just jumped in and started adding their own parts. The whole recording process has been described as "unorganized" and very different than the way Radiohead has recorded before.

We've been told that the new album should be finished by December with a release date in Feburay or March 2006. Touring will possibly begin in February 2006.
